The gallery folder will store all the images/ fullsize,medium size/thumbnail size by default. If you have the option to store in multifolders then the gallery creates a folder for every one thousand...

1. Yes2. Yes.3. Not really. You can enabled/disable certain badges but you can't control where they are displayed. There are settings to enable display in post display I believe.

The core badges normally you can't remove but you can disable them/hide them I belive.If you really must delete them.It would be the badgeawards_badges table in the database.
